What are the documents and procedures required to obtain a long-term study visa (type D visa) in Italy?

Required Documents:


  1. Passport: A valid passport with at least two blank pages and a validity period that extends at least three months beyond the visa expiration date.

  2. Visa Application Form: A completed and signed visa application form.

  3. Biometric Photos: Two recent passport-sized photos (35-40 mm in width), taken within the last six months with a white background.

  4. Acceptance Letter: An official letter of acceptance from an Italian educational institution.

  5. Educational Institution’s Document: Details of the study program, verified and signed by the institution.

  6. Proof of Financial Means: Evidence that you can financially support yourself during your stay in Italy. This can include bank statements, proof of scholarship, or financial support letters.

  7. Accommodation Proof: Documentation showing where you will be staying in Italy, such as a rental agreement or dormitory confirmation.

  8. Travel Health Insurance: Health insurance covering medical expenses up to at least 30,000 Euros, valid for the entire Schengen area and for the entire duration of your stay.

  9. Criminal Record Certificate: A clean criminal record certificate.

  10. Visa Application Fee: Proof of payment of the visa application fee.

Application Process:

  1. Schedule an Appointment: Visit the website of the Italian Embassy or Consulate in Turkey to schedule a visa application appointment.

  2. Prepare Your Documents: Gather all the required documents and ensure they are complete and accurate.

  3. Attend the Appointment: Go to the Italian Embassy or Consulate on the day of your appointment with all your documents. You may also need to provide biometric data (fingerprints).

  4. Submission and Review: Submit your documents for review. The processing time may vary, so apply at least 1-2 months before your planned departure date.

  5. Receive Your Visa: If your application is approved, you will be notified to collect your passport with the visa affixed. You may need to return to the embassy or consulate to pick it up.
